How to Edit AI Shorts Captions on the Web

How to Edit AI Shorts Captions on the Web

The AI got 98% of your captions right. It's the other 2% that's bothering you — a name spelled wrong, a term it misheard, a caption sitting over someone's face.

Good news: you can fix all of that on the web, and it costs you nothing in credits. Caption edits never use credits, no matter how many words you change.

What you can change

The web caption editor lets you:

  1. Fix any word the AI got wrong. Edit the caption text itself — names, slang, terms it misheard, all of it.
  2. Change the text and highlight colors. Adjust the caption colors to suit the footage or your look.
  3. Move captions up or down. If captions are covering something important in the frame, shift their position.

That's the editor's job: words, colors, position. It's a caption editor, and it stays in that lane.

When to edit

Edit before you post, obviously — but also edit with a light hand. A quick pass for wrong words and bad placement is worth it. Rewriting every caption by hand defeats the point of having AI cut and caption the short in the first place.

Most creators run into this when a short is otherwise perfect: the moment is great, the hook works, and one misheard word is the only thing standing between the clip and posting. Fix that word, and you're done.

A sensible editing pass

Work through a short in this order, and you'll spend the least time on it:

  1. Words first. Read the captions against what was actually said. Fix names, places, and terms the AI misheard — those are the errors viewers notice and the ones that change meaning.
  2. Position second. If a caption sits over a face, a key object, or the hook line, move it up or down until the frame reads cleanly.
  3. Colors last. Adjust text and highlight colors only if the current combination fights the footage — bright footage, dark footage, and busy backgrounds all read differently.

Then watch the short once through, sound on, and once with the sound off. The sound-off pass is the real test: if you can follow the short from captions alone, it's ready to post.

Do edits cost credits?

No. Edits never use credits. That applies whether you fix one word or several, and whether you change colors or move the captions. Your credit balance only changes when a video is processed — 1 credit per minute of video — not when you polish the result.

If a job itself fails or you cancel it, those credits are refunded in full. The full credit rules are in Castream AI Shorts Credits and Pricing Explained.

Where captions fit in the whole short

Captions arrive with each short, in the style you picked before cutting — Classic, Bold, Boxed, or Clean — with every word timed to your voice and the spoken word highlighted. The style guide is in AI Shorts Captions: Styles and Word-by-Word Highlighting.

Once your captions are right, the short is ready to post with its hook, title, description, and hashtags — see AI Shorts Titles, Hooks and Hashtags: How to Post Your Shorts.
