OBS Setup Guide for Castream

Use this guide to connect OBS Studio (desktop) with Castream.

Works on Windows, macOS, Linux. OBS is free and open-source.

1. Download & Install OBS

• Go to obsproject.com

• Download for your OS (Windows / macOS / Linux)

• Install with default settings

2. Create a Scene

1. Open OBS

2. In the Scenes box → click ➕ → name it (e.g., Main Stream)

3. Add sources:
• Display Capture → share your screen
• Window Capture → share a specific app/game
• Video Capture Device → add your webcam
• Audio Input Capture → mic
• Audio Output Capture → system/game sound

3. Connect OBS to Castream

1. In OBS → Settings → Stream

2. Service: Custom…

3. Server (RTMP URL): (copy from dashboard)

rtmp://ingest-a9x1b.castream.io/stream

4. Stream Key: copy from Castream dashboard
• Each destination (YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, etc.) will use this key behind the scenes

4. Configure Video & Audio

• Settings → Video
• Base (Canvas) Resolution: match your monitor (e.g. 1920x1080)
• Output (Scaled) Resolution:
• Free Plan → 1280x720
• Creator / Pro Plans → 1920x1080
• FPS: 30 (stable) or 60 (for smooth gameplay)

• Settings → Output
• Encoder:
• NVIDIA GPU → NVENC (better performance)
• AMD/Intel → AMF / QSV
• CPU fallback → x264
• Bitrate:
• 2500–4000 kbps → 720p
• 4000–6000 kbps → 1080p
• Audio: 128–192 kbps

5. Start Streaming

• Click Start Streaming in OBS

• OBS → Castream → All your linked platforms (YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram Live, etc.)

• Go Live on castream.io/secure - select your targets and click go live.

6. Troubleshooting

• Black screen capture on Windows laptops → right-click OBS → Run with High-Performance GPU

• Laggy stream → lower resolution or bitrate

• No audio → check Audio Mixer in OBS (make sure mic/desktop audio is added)

• Stream delay → add less buffer in settings, check your internet upload speed

7. Pro Tips

• Use Scenes to switch layouts (e.g., full webcam → game + webcam overlay).

• Add Overlays or Alerts to look professional.

• Record locally in OBS while streaming to save high-quality archives.

• Test your stream before going live: Settings → Output → Recording Path.
