How to Stream to LinkedIn Live with Castream

How to Stream to LinkedIn Live with Castream

If your audience lives on LinkedIn — founders, consultants, job seekers, B2B buyers — meeting them there with live video is one of the highest-leverage things you can do. The catch: LinkedIn Live doesn't hand you a big friendly "Go Live" button inside most streaming apps. Instead, you connect it the universal way: RTMP.

The good news is that streaming to LinkedIn Live with Castream takes about five minutes once you have your RTMP credentials. You add LinkedIn as a custom RTMP destination, toggle it on alongside YouTube or anywhere else you're streaming, and hit Go Live. One broadcast, every platform.

Here's the whole thing, step by step 👇

✅ Before you start

To stream to LinkedIn Live, you'll need:

  • A LinkedIn account with LinkedIn Live access (usually tied to a Page you manage or a profile with live video enabled)
  • Your LinkedIn RTMP server URL and stream key
  • The Castream app (iOS or Android) with an account — create one here if you haven't yet

LinkedIn rolls out Live access gradually and changes the setup screens often. If you can't find the RTMP option, your account or Page may not have Live enabled yet — check LinkedIn's own help docs for the current eligibility rules.

🔗 Step 1 — Get your LinkedIn RTMP credentials

  1. Open LinkedIn on desktop and go to the Live video setup area (usually found when creating a LinkedIn Event or from your Page's admin tools — look for "Go live" or "Live video")
  2. Choose the option to stream via a custom stream / streaming software (not LinkedIn's built-in tool)
  3. LinkedIn will show you two values:
    • Stream URL (the RTMP server URL)
    • Stream key
  4. Copy both — you'll paste them into Castream in a moment

⚠️ Keep your stream key private. Anyone with it can stream to your LinkedIn Live. If it ever leaks, regenerate it from LinkedIn and update your Castream destination.

📲 Step 2 — Add LinkedIn as a custom RTMP destination in Castream

  1. Open the Castream app
  2. Go to Settings → Destinations
  3. Tap Add destination and choose Custom RTMP
  4. Give it a name you'll recognize, like LinkedIn Live
  5. Paste your LinkedIn RTMP server URL
  6. Paste your LinkedIn stream key
  7. Save the destination

That's it — LinkedIn is now a permanent destination in your Castream account. You only do this once; next time you stream, it's just a toggle.

Want to run the same broadcast to YouTube or Twitch at the same time? Add those destinations too — Twitch connects via OAuth and YouTube takes a few taps.

🎥 Step 3 — Go live

  1. In the Castream app, set up your stream as usual (camera, title, orientation)
  2. Toggle LinkedIn Live ON in your destinations list
  3. Toggle on any other destinations you want
  4. Tap Go Live

Castream starts sending your video to LinkedIn's servers. Depending on how you created the broadcast on LinkedIn's side, you may need to confirm or start the event inside LinkedIn before viewers can see it — so keep that tab open and watch for the preview.

Prefer desktop? You can do the same thing from Castream Web: manage destinations in the dashboard, feed OBS into Castream via RTMP ingest, and launch from the Go Live Dashboard.

🧠 Recommended settings for LinkedIn Live

LinkedIn is a professional network, so polish matters more here than on most platforms:

  • Landscape (16:9) — LinkedIn viewers are mostly on desktop; horizontal video looks right
  • 1080p at 30 FPS is the sweet spot for talking-head and panel shows
  • Keep your bitrate in the 4–8 Mbps range if your connection allows it
  • Use a decent microphone — on LinkedIn, bad audio kills credibility faster than bad video
  • Add a clear title and description; LinkedIn's feed rewards posts that look intentional

If you're streaming from your phone, the mobile streaming setup guide covers tripods, mics, and lighting that make a phone stream look pro.

💡 Content ideas that work on LinkedIn Live

Formats that consistently perform on LinkedIn:

  • Weekly industry roundup — 20 minutes on what happened in your space this week. Low prep, high loyalty.
  • Live Q&A / AMA — announce the topic a few days ahead, collect questions in the comments, answer them live.
  • Behind the scenes — product launches, office life, event coverage. LinkedIn audiences love authenticity from brands.
  • Panel discussions — bring two or three guests on via OBS and Castream Web for a roundtable feel.
  • Live workshops — teach something in 30–45 minutes. Educational content gets saved and shared long after the stream ends.

Whatever you pick, promote the broadcast as a LinkedIn post a day or two beforehand. Live video gets a notification push, but a warm-up post fills the room before you even go live.

⚠️ Things to know

  • LinkedIn Live access isn't automatic — eligibility depends on your account/Page and LinkedIn's current rules
  • Your stream key may expire or change; if a scheduled broadcast fails to connect, generate fresh credentials
  • Comments and reactions happen on LinkedIn — manage them from LinkedIn itself
  • LinkedIn may require you to manually start the broadcast on their side even after Castream is sending video
  • Follow LinkedIn's professional community policies; it's a stricter room than most platforms

✅ Quick checklist

Before you hit Go Live:

  • LinkedIn Live access confirmed on your account or Page
  • RTMP server URL and stream key copied from LinkedIn
  • LinkedIn saved as a custom RTMP destination in Castream
  • Destination toggled ON for this stream
  • LinkedIn event/preview open so you can confirm the broadcast
  • Audio tested, lighting decent, title set

Do that, and your next LinkedIn Live is one tap away — with the rest of your platforms coming along for free. 🚀
