TikTok Stream Key Not Working? How to Fix It
You hit Go Live, everything else connects, and TikTok just… doesn't. Few things are more frustrating mid-broadcast. The good news: a dead TikTok stream key in Castream is almost always one of a handful of fixable issues, and most take under two minutes to sort out.
Do this first: regenerate your key
TikTok stream keys expire or change far more often than most creators expect. Before you troubleshoot anything else:
- Open TikTok and head to your LIVE setup area
- Generate a fresh Server URL and Stream Key
- In the Castream app, go to Settings → Destinations
- Tap TikTok, paste in the new Server URL and Stream Key, and save
- Toggle TikTok on and go live again
That alone fixes it for most people. If TikTok still won't connect, work through the causes below.
Why TikTok stream keys fail
Your key expired between sessions. This is the number one cause. A key that worked perfectly last week can silently stop working today — TikTok invalidates keys on its own schedule. The fix is always the same: regenerate both values and re-paste them into Castream.
A stray space snuck into the paste. Copy-paste on mobile loves to grab a trailing space or line break, and TikTok rejects the key without telling you why. Delete the field contents completely in Settings → Destinations → TikTok, then paste again carefully.
Server URL and key came from different sessions. If you copied the Server URL yesterday and the key today, TikTok won't accept the pair. Always copy both values in the same session and paste them together.
Your account lost RTMP access. TikTok hands out RTMP access gradually, and accounts can lose it without warning. Check whether the stream key option still appears in your TikTok LIVE setup. If it's gone, your account no longer has RTMP access — and there's no way around that inside Castream.
The key belongs to a different account. If you run multiple TikTok accounts (a personal one and a brand one, say), double-check the key came from the account you're actually trying to reach.
You never confirmed the broadcast in TikTok. Even with a perfectly valid key, TikTok often requires a manual confirmation. After Castream starts sending video, open TikTok's LIVE page, wait for your preview to appear, add your title, then tap Go LIVE inside TikTok.
Your stream key is private. Never share it publicly or post screenshots that show it.
Still stuck?
- Update the TikTok app to the latest version — older builds sometimes break the RTMP handshake
- Test your other destinations from Castream Web to confirm the problem is TikTok-specific and not your connection
- If you stream through OBS, re-check your Castream ingest settings with the OBS and Castream guide
